How Army Information Technology could benefit from Open Source.

Currently the Army uses a conglomeration of software, loosely coupled by old proprietary systems. The Army has a lot of IT talent. In an Ideal world the Army would leverage the Talent it has to design and integrate their systems. Although progress has been made to renovate some decaying software no real innovation has been done. We still use a piece of logistics software written 20 years ago and poorly maintained since then. I joked once how all of the ulls ( Army Proprietary software ) systems could be replaced by a lamp stack. It took a couple of days to build out a proof of concept. but it was very easy.
